Through the collaboration of the Water, Electric, and Customer Service Departments, the City of Bay City is working toward implementing a customer-wide meter upgrade. We are replacing our outdated analog meters with wireless advanced meters. Since their inception, advanced meters have revolutionized the way utility companies and customers measure, manage, and control their water and electricity usage. Advanced meters are an integral part of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) which is a state-of-the-art electronic/digital hardware and software system that gathers, distributes, and acts on information in order to improve utility services. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, AMI applies technologies, tools, and techniques available to utilize energy more efficiently, avoid blackouts, and distribute energy from renewable resources across the nation. Utility companies need to install advanced meters on homes and businesses in order to use AMI and reap the many benefits that it offers.
We are confident that advanced meters are the next generation of utility technology and through their implementation customer service will be improved. With the City of Bay City Public Utilities working together with customers we can continue toward a more efficient future.
While we are committed to ensuring that our customers reap the benefits of this system as soon as possible, we understand that this project will take some time to implement.
