Bay City Residents & Business Owners Reminded to Remove
Snow from Sidewalks After Snowfall

BAY CITY, MICHIGAN, JANUARY 6, 2010

The City of Bay City would like to remind all residents and business owners of their responsibility under the city’s Code of Ordinances to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjoining their property following snowfall.  Keeping sidewalks free of snow and ice assures the safety and convenience of persons using city sidewalks and maintains the overall walkability of the community.  Persons having questions about the city’s snow removal regulations or complaints about accumulations of snow and ice on city sidewalks may contact Scott McKillop of the city’s Planning Department at (989)894-8176, or by email at smckillop@baycitymi.org.

Police Department Door Hanger Program

The Bay City Police Department is asking residents to help us reduce the crimes of Home Invasion and Larcenies by locking your doors. If an officer becomes aware of an unsecured door he or she will attempt to contact the property owner. If that owner cannot be located, the officer will lock the property and affix a notice indicating the property was locked as a courtesy. Click here for a sample of the door hanger.

Special One-Day and Temporary Authorization Licensees

In order to have a more structured review and approval process regarding Special One Day Liquor Licenses (Non-profit organizations) and Temporary Authorization (existing bar establishments) applications the Bay City Police Department has changed the procedures for application approvals.  Drop-ins can no longer be processed immediately.

Below are the new procedures:

·         Completed applications are to be turned in at the front desk.  This can be done during the hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.   Please be sure all information is filled in on the forms.  Include the diagrams and copy of the bond with the application.

·         Applications will be reviewed and if approved, signed by the Chief of Police.  Approved applications will only be available for pick-up at the front desk every Friday after 12:00 p.m.

·         Applications dropped off after 11:00 a.m. on Friday, will be available for pick up on the following Friday.

·         Applications must be received by the Bay City Police Department at least 20 days prior to the date of the event or there may not be sufficient time for MLCC to review.

Remember, like any other licensee of the commission, Special One-Day licensees are responsible for following the Liquor Control Code and Rules of the Commission.  Please familiarize your staff with the liquor laws and rules that govern the sale of alcoholic beverages.
