The V.I.P.E.R. Unit is comprised of one sergeant and five officers. Four officers are assigned to the Mid-Michigan Safe Streets Task Force and one officer is assigned to the Detroit Bay City Resident Agency Child Exploitation Task Force (Formerly Mid-Michigan Area Computer Crimes Task Force). The V.I.P.E.R. Unit was created in February of 2004 to impact a variety of problems as they are identified. In 2007, V.I.P.E.R. joined the Bay City FBI Resident Office and became part of the Mid-Michigan Safe Streets Task Force.
V.I.P.E.R. works cooperatively with MSP-BAYANET, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Bay County Prosecutor’s Office, Probation/Parole agencies, United States Attorney’s Office, The Federal Bureau of Investigation, citizens of the City of Bay City, and community groups to mobilize the necessary resources to effectively eliminate and/or reduce identified, targeted problems.
The V.I.P.E.R. Unit administers the Repeat Offender Program. This program’s mission is to identify, prosecute, and incarcerate career criminals in an effort to prevent future crime and to seek enhanced sentences.
