Zoning Board of Appeals

Overview

The Zoning Board of Appeals is authorized by the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act and the City's zoning ordinance to hear and make decisions on applications for variances from zoning regulations, appeals of decisions made by Planning and Zoning Department staff in the administration of zoning regulations, and request for interpretations of zoning regulations and the location of zoning district boundaries. The board consists of five regular members and two alternate members. Members must be city residents and serve 3-year terms. Members should have an interest in, or demonstrated experience in, architecture, building construction/engineering, land use planning, real estate, development, and/or law. Meetings are held at 7:00pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
