Filing deadline for persons interested in serving as Mayor and City Commissioners

This election year, City residents will be voting for Commissioners from the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th Wards of the City and for the Mayor. Terms are 4 years ending November 20, 2023.

If a Primary Election is necessary (more than two people file for an office) it will be held August 6, 2019, the General Election date is November 5, 2019.

Candidate Qualifications include the following:

  • Must be a registered elector under State laws at the time of filing the nominating petitions;
  • Resident of City of Bay City for 1 year preceding the date of the election;
  • Must reside in the ward from which they seek election at the time of filing their nominating petitions;
  • Limited to serving 2 consecutive 4-year terms.

To be eligible for filing a candidate must have signatures of 50 registered electors from the Ward in which they are seeking to represent, the Mayor must have 50 signatures from the city at large. Petitions and Affidavits of Identity must be filed with the City Clerk's office.  City Clerk TJ Lucero recommends submitting your petition and affidavit of identity prior to the deadline if possible. This leaves time for signature requirements to be reviewed, verified and if necessary, corrected. If the deadline has passed and the signature requirements are not met, there is a risk of not making it on the ballot.  The filing deadline is TUESDAY, APRIL 23, 2019, by 4 PM.

The current Commissioners and Mayor are not term limited and eligible to run again.
