REMOVAL OF RAILROAD SPUR SCHEDULED TO BEGIN IN BAY CITY, MICHIGAN

Rail Road Crossing Removal

BAY CITY, MICH., MAY 19, 2020 - The railroad spur between 34th and Harrison Streets is scheduled for removal. The project will include temporary road closures as the rail line crosses roadways in Bay City’s south end.  This project is being coordinated between Lakestate Railway, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Rail Division and the City of Bay City.  Shaw will be doing the removal of the tracks and the concrete work to replace the sidewalk, curb and gutter. Bay City Streets Division will perform the asphalt work and MDOT will be working on the crossing at M-13 (Broadway). This project is being funded by the Lakestate Railway and MDOT Rail Division.

The project will be done in phases to limit the number of crossing that are closed at one time. The tentative schedule is as follows:  

Existing railroad crossing removal and restoration work will begin Tuesday, May 19, 2020, on the following roadways:

  • Stanton Street
  • Marsac Street / 33rd Street
  • Wilson Street
  • Webster Street
  • Taylor Street
  • 1/2 of Boat Launch Crossing

Following this work; the next group of crossings will be addressed: 

  • 34th Street
  • McCormick Street
  • Harrison Street
  • 1/2 of Boat Launch Crossing

The crossing at M-13 (Broadway) will be completed based on MDOT’s schedule.
