BAY CITY, MICH., JUNE 2, 2020 - The City will be performing construction on S. Trumbull Street, south of Columbus Avenue, beginning on June 8th. The street will be closed adjacent to McLaren Bay Region Hospital, from 16th Street to Columbus Ave. Work includes replacement of water main, storm sewer, and milling/resurfacing of the asphalt road. Hospital access will remain from Columbus, Johnson, and 16th Streets. Work is expected to be complete by the end of July.
All of the hospital building entrances will remain open, as well as all other businesses. The Columbus, Mulholland, and 16th Street driveway entrances will remain open. There will be signs added to direct motorists to the emergency room and hospital entrances. The driveways along S. Trumbull will not be open.
"We want to make sure people are aware they will not be able to get to the hospital from S. Trumbull. The traffic impacts are minor however, we don’t want anyone to panic if they see the street closed," said Engineering Manager Rachel Phillips.
The total project cost is estimated at $250,000 and the costs share split between water, sewer, and streets. The watermain, sewer, and traffic control work will be done through city forces. The pavement milling and paving will be a contractor. Shaw Contracting will perform the milling.
