City of Bay City to resume normal non-payment policy for customers

BAY CITY, MICH., SEPTEMBER 25, 2020 — The suspension of shutoffs for City of Bay City utility customers which was enacted in March 2020 in response to COVID-19 will be changing. 

RESIDENTIAL SERVICES: The City of Bay City will resume notification of utility service disconnections to residential customers for non-payment of electric service on September 29, 2020. Disconnection for non-payment of electric service will begin on or after October 12, 2020.  Residential water service disconnections will continue to be suspended. 

COMMERCIAL SERVICES: The City of Bay City has resumed notification of utility service disconnections for non-payment of commercial electric and water services.  Disconnections for non-payment will begin on or after October 5, 2020.

The City understands that these are challenging times and resources may be available to help customers who are behind on their utility bills. Customers are encouraged to seek financial assistance by contacting one of the following:

    For state emergency relief, contact your local DHHS office at 1-844-464-3447

    For the City of Bay City Utility/Rent/ Mortgage Relief Program at 989-894-8225

  • This program will provide a one-time grant to pay for up to three months of past due utility and rent or mortgage payments to low income residents who have had a hardship directly related to COVID-19.  More information can be found at https://www.baycitymi.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=250. 

Customers may also contact the Utility Customer Service Department at 989-894-8104 to make payment arrangements during business hours of 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Please be aware that the Main Lobby (Suite 106) will be closed from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm for cleaning and lunch.
