Public Safety Response to Possible Threat Against Bay City School

OCTOBER 7, 2021 BAY CITY, MICH:  On 10/06/21 at 2250 hours, an officer from the Bay City Department of Public Safety responded to a threats complaint from a person regarding a social media post about a possible school shooting. This social media post mentioned Central High School and included photos of firearms and a protest. Bay City Public Schools officials were notified of the threat and an investigation began including staff from the schools and the Bay City Department of Public Safety.  The investigation has resulted in the threat being unsubstantiated and no connection to Bay City Central High School was found, nor was any other local school found to have students involved. The safety of students and staff are the highest priority for the Bay City Public Schools, and their commitment to work with the Bay City Department of Public Safety through information sharing and having School Resource Officers on site is crucial in these types of cases.  Bay City Central High School was in a normal session today, with additional officer presence on campus. Bay City Public Schools takes any potential threat to the safety of staff and students seriously, and is thankful to each community member who brought this threat to the attention of school administrators.
