Construction at the Intersection of 6th Street and Washington Avenue

BAY CITY, MICH. – The City will be performing construction at the intersection of 6th Street and Washington Avenue, beginning September 7, 2022. The work includes removing the existing traffic signal and building “bump outs” at the corners. The construction is necessary due to failing strain poles for the traffic signal, which is causing a safety hazard. Work is expected to be complete November 15, 2022.

Traffic will be detoured on Saginaw, Center, and Adams Streets. The pedestrian detour will follow Saginaw, Center, Adams, and 7th Streets. As a result of Center Avenue being part of the detour for this work, the Feet on the Street closure along Center between Saginaw Street and Washington Avenue will open earlier than expected on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

This work will improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians, as well as improve traffic operations.
