Why is there a spike in usage when I've not changed my water consumption?

An easy way to rule out a leaking toilet is to put food coloring in the tank of the toilet. If the food coloring appears in the bowl of the toilet, your toilet is leaking, thus, using water. Another easy way to check for water usage on a meter is to look at the head of the meter at the "blue wagon wheel". If this is moving/spinning, you have water passing through the meter.

Water Distribution / Metering staff run continuous use reports and will contact customer via telephone (if on file) or home visit. If no one is at home, a door tag will be left at the residence to notify them of the excessive use.
