1. Do I need a license to open a business in the city?

The city does not have a general business license requirement. However, certain types of business do require a license. Please visit the License Applications and Clerk Forms page to see a list of businesses that require licensing.

2. How can I find out if I'm registered to vote?

You may check your voting status online through the Michigan Voter Information Center. You will be informed of your voter registration status, your polling location and more.

3. How can I help with Elections?

Please complete the Election Inspector application and return it to the Clerk’s office. The Clerk’s Office holds training periodically to train inspectors to work elections.

4. How do I apply for an absentee ballot?

If you wish to request an absentee ballot, please fill out the Absentee Ballot Application and return it to the City Clerk. If you would like to be placed on the permanent mailing list for absentee ballots, please contact the Clerk's office at (989) 894-8168 or by visiting City Hall. 5. How do I apply for a vendor permit?

Please complete the form and return with a photo ID to the City Clerk’s Office. Please note the vendor bond requirements on the second page. Click here for Vendor Permit.

6. How do I find a meeting agenda?

7. How do I get a yard waste and/or recycling sticker?

Yard Waste and Recycling Stickers are available in the Clerk’s office and most other offices in City Hall.

8. How do I obtain a passport?

You may apply for a passport in the Clerk’s office Monday through Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM. Please see our Passport Information page for more information. Click here for Application and Requirements.

9. How do I plan a Special Event in the City?

For any event requiring the use of City property or street closures please visit the Special Event Planning page or contact Jamie in the Clerk’s Office at (989) 894-8170. If you are planning an event in Wenonah Park, please contact the State Theatre at (989) 892-2660. If you would like to reserve a pavilion in one of our parks please contact the Park’s Department at (989) 894-8314.

10. Is the Clerk’s Office handicap accessible?

Yes. Please use the Saginaw Street entrance, the elevator is located just inside the door to your left and you will take that to the second floor. We are located just down the hallway on the left hand side in Suite 204.
