Captain Nathan Webster has been with the Bay City Department of Public Safety (BCDPS) since 1998. He is a 1998 graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. Captain Webster attended the 63rd Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College in 1998 and began working as a police officer for the Bay City Police Department.
Captain Webster was in the Community Policing Unit for three years in the early 2000’s as a district Community Policing Officer, meeting with residents and handling neighbor complaints, as well as working with the city on quality-of-life issues. In 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and worked afternoon and midnight shifts in the Patrol Operations Division. Captain Webster was an instructor in PPCT and Mobile Field Force and served as Field Training Supervisor. In 2012, the Department of Public Safety was created, merging the Bay City Police and Fire Departments into one combined Department of Public Safety. Captain Webster attended the Bay County Fire Academy in 2014 and obtained Firefighter I and II certifications from the State of Michigan. In 2019, Captain Webster was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant of the patrol night shift until January 2020; at that time, he was promoted to the rank of Captain of the Support Operations Division, which included the duties of being the Accreditation Manager, supervising the Detective and Identification Bureaus, and serving as the department quartermaster. In 2022, he was assigned to Law Enforcement Operations.
