Michael J. Cecchini, Public Safety Director


In January of 2013, Mike Cecchini was named Public Safety Director for the newly created Bay City Department of Public Safety; prior to his appointment as Public Safety Director he was the Police Chief of the Bay City Police Department for 6 years. Director Cecchini worked for the City of Phoenix (AZ) Police Department for over 20 years before being hired as the 10th Police Chief in Bay City. 

Director Cecchini has a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Justice Studies from Arizona State University and is a graduate of Arizona State University's Advanced Public Executive Program where he received the designation of Certified Public Manager. He is also a graduate of the 236th Session of the FBI National Academy and is a 2018 graduate of the 77th Session of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (LEEDS).  In May of 2014, Director Cecchini graduated from the Bay County Fire Academy obtaining his State of Michigan Firefighter I and II Certifications.

Director Cecchini resides in Bay City and is an active member of our community. He is a member of the Bay City Morning Rotary Club and also serves on the Delta College Criminal Justice/Corrections Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors for the 100 Club of Bay County and he is the President of the Board of Directors for the Antique Toy and Fire Truck Museum.  Director Cecchini is also on the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Association (MMRMA) Joint Law Enforcement Committee. Past affiliations include; Board of Directors Literacy Council of Bay County, Board of Directors United Way of Bay County and Saginaw Valley State University Certified Public Manager Advisory Committee.
