1. My power is out, how long before it is restored?

Our crews work diligently to restore your electric service as quickly and safely as
possible. Each outage is different; the cause may be difficult to identify and remedy,
which means restoration information may not always be immediately available.

2. How do I report a problem with my electricity?

If you are having issues with your electric, please call us and we will send someone out to investigate the issue. You can contact Bay City Electric Light & Power at 989-894-8350 24 hours a day.

3. What do I do if there are power lines down or hanging low?

If there are power lines down always remember: Stay Away and Stay Alive
Contact Bay City Electric Light & Power immediately at 989-894-8350 and we will send a crew out to take care of the wire.
Even though a wire isn't sparking, it can still be "live" with a deadly amount of electricity. Be careful not to come in contact with anything the wire is touching. Standing water, metal objects, and even tree limbs can conduct a dangerous amount of voltage! Do not attempt to move any wires!

4. How do I report a street light that is out or malfunctioning?

Bay City Electric Light & Power makes needed repairs to the streetlights we maintain. If the street light reported is not one of ours, we will contact the utility that owns that light to report the problem. 5. How do I report a Security Light that is out or malfunctioning?

Bay City Electric Light & Power will make needed repairs to the security light that was installed by our company. You can report a security light by contacting Bay City Electric Light & Power at 989-894-8350 24 hours a day.

6. There are branches and/or trees growing into the power lines, what should I do?

Bay City Electric Light & Power will trim branches from trees that are growing into the power lines that may pose a dangerous situation. BCELP trims and removes trees, limbs, and brush in the right-of-way and away from the power lines on a rotating schedule, to ensure the safety of our customers. If you see a potential threat, you can call our office at 989-894-8350, and we will send a crew out to inspect the issues.

7. Right of Way tree maintenance

Bay City Electric Light & Power maintains the right of way trees throughout Bay City. There is a normal trimming rotation that our crews follow, but if there is an issue that needs immediate attention we can schedule the crews to that location. Possible issues would include:
Branches and/or limbs on the power lines
Tree is diseased or dying
Branches and/or limbs are falling into yard and/or street
Branches and/or limbs are blocking road and/or sidewalk
Tree has fallen

8. I need my electric service disconnected or connected for work that is being done, who should I call?

BCELP will disconnect the service to your house for repairs with a 24-hour notice
between 7:30 am and 2:30 pm at no charge. Once repairs are completed and inspected, the electrical inspector will call for a restoration of your electricity. Depending on the situation, it may take up to 4 hours to have the service restored. If the work you performed involved making repairs or modifying your electrical service you must obtain an electrical permit and have the work inspected before being restored.

9. I am doing maintenance/repairs on my house, and the electric line is in the way. What should I do?

If you are doing any work on your house and the line is in the way, BCELP can place cover-ups on the line or we can disconnect it while the work is being done. Please call 989-894-8350 24 hours in advance to schedule this work to be done. 

Please note that cover-ups are intended for accidental contact and should not be used as a support. Work around the cover-up should be treated as if the cover-up were not there. To have cover-ups removed, call 989-894-8350 when the work is complete.
